Cotons de Tulear were first brought to the United States from Madagascar in 1974.  The name is derived from the cotton-like texture of the dog’s coat and the city of Tulear in Madagascar.

The “guardian” in this painting is a Coton de Tulear puppy who dutifully alerts her family to any possible intruder.
